Interior modifications

Hi everyone, I'm seriously thinking of buying a W32 and I have some thoughts on modifications for the interior. Would be good to know if they are possible or maybe if someone made them :)

I've seen some W32 that have a quarter berth going under the cockpit, what do you think of creating this in one that has the regular nav desk?

The other thing that bugs me a little is the lack of proper shower. Now, I know in later models there is drainage in the hall to the v-berth, but I think it might be possible to create a drain with a pump to the existing head outlet and make it a wethead. The wood in the head would need protection from mold of course but that is easier to deal with.

Both these modifications require heavy alteration of the interior, but the hull itself remains untouched.

Anyway, I'd love to hear some opinions from the community and if someone made one of the above that would be even better

    Cheers!

I have only owned my Westsail for about six months, but I’ve owned other boats of similar size before. Regarding creation of a quarter berth - if that is a feature that you really really need, I would suggest narrowing your search to boats that already have one. Regarding your suggested shower mods - those would be a much less invasive procedure, but you may wish to consider how often you really need a shower configured differently than the in-the-hallway set up. Perhaps if you live aboard the boat at a marina with inadequate shower facilities, I can imagine wanting a better shower set up, but when out cruising a boat that is only 32 feet, in warm-ish areas, I don’t think many people would use a shower in a headspace, instead of setting up a portable shower system in the cockpit, with sun-warmed water in a black hanging bag.

Well I plan on buying near Toronto (I already found a couple for sale) so it could get pretty cold to shower outside, also I really want to sail to Iceland and Norway, so the shower mod is kind of important for convenience. Both W32 I found appear to be before the hallway drain upgrade so it's good to hear you think this is the easier job haha.

As for the quarter berth I see what you mean it is a little wild and I might just not do it. This boat just ticks so many boxes, and I really think it could be so much better with a quarter berth to host crew. Maybe it will be one of those things that are always on the todo list but never gets done...
