I figured I would start a thread for asking if its a good deal or not. Please feel free to ask if you think it's a good deal or not.

Im replacing my boomkin with new kielm dryed dug fir and about to order some wood for $230. It's cut to length but that's all. I wil need to do the rest of the cuts and drill the holes.

Seems a little steep to me but its all I can find here in Olympia WA. Am I about to get ripped off?

I'm ordering Lexan for my forward hatch rework. Is $150 a good price for 1/2" mr10 uv treated Lexan? The cuts are free too.

Anyone else pay less and if so where?

    Norm,

Wow that's a steal on the polycarbonate I owe you some beer for that! Thanks I'm gonna order it this afternoon.

As far as the boomkin I have considered using split backstays but ill still need my boomkin fixed. I'm now considering replacing the wooden boomkin with stainless steel tubing from McMaster Carr -

Ok I'm ordering the polycarbonate but the uv & scratch resistant stuff totaling about 150.

As far as the boomkin I'm still not sure, ill need to build the boom gallows first. Then perhaps ill be calling Bud again.

The Douglas Fir price is pretty similar to what I paid 3 years ago for enough lumber to do both boomkins.  I needed to do only one (a little rot) so have saved the other half for later.

Most of my cost included cut fees and yes I figured it was over inflated prices. Also the quote was for wood that was much larger than I needed because the mill only sells the distributor a certain size. I was going to purchase a 4x6 they were out so he quoted me for a 6x6 cut to 2.5" x 4" x 57".

Why is wood measured differently than a tape measure? I want a 2x4 and end up getting something much smaller.

Why is my picture missing and you all have one, its only in this section of the forums.

As soon as I figure out this back stay issue I may just forget the boomkin all together. I do need a boom gallows and I'm trying to envision my safety lines connecting without a boomkin.

    Michael,
My W28 does not have a boomkin.  The lifelines coming aft are attached to the front og the boom gallows post.  On the aft side of the post they attach to a padeye on the caprail just forward of the hawsepipe.  I also had a stern pulpit built for a little added security.

The price I paid was more like $175 for an 8' stick of the right cross section, but that included shipping of a rather awkwardly shaped package.  The supplier was:

Jackel Enterprises, 347 Locust St., Watsonville, CA 95076,  Phone: 831-768-3880

It was very hard to find any supplier who would sell such a small quantity as they were all saw mills and wholesalers.  I felt lucky to find Jackel :-)
