s in the original thread the biggest problem on a 32 is where to put it. We originally though we would install ours in a component fashion, that is not all pieces in one place. After "careful" measurements we purchased our Spectra. Oops.... it became apparent that what I thought would work wouldn't. The only place I could see at that point was on the upper starboard settee for the membrane and the rest elsewhere. Fortunately I spoke to Spectra and was informed that the membrane/Clark pump could be mounted upside down which allowed it to be hung on the ceiling in the quarter berth. This still isn't a perfect solution as it's pretty cramped to access filters etc.
John, I agree with you that simpler is better. I Would think real hard about giving up precious storage space for one. We need every inch of storage when cruising. Without a quarter berth I don't think I would have found a truly suitable place. But having said that we would not cruise without one. Hauling water is a real pain in the ass, been there done that. Being able to shower and not ration water is a real pleasure, not to mention health implications. It also allows us to anchor out longer in remote places without having to go find water. This is just our opinion and is what works for us. We do realize everyone's style, budget and comfort level is different. But I refuse to boat camp.
As far as the wife is concerned, mine is the real cruiser and the main driving force to go again. I lean more towards a motor home. While at the boat show six years ago she came across the water maker and said we need one to keep me happy. I said fine, you can have the water maker but you don't get a new kitchen this year. She took the water maker without a second thought. Upside-I still haven't had to do the kitchen.
