I' ve just started the re-powering project on TAMZIN(WS32).  The motor's out, electrical cleaned up, fuel tanks out etc. and I'm starting to go back in with some of the systems.  The old raw water filter was a black plactic thing that was hung up close to the deck line on the lazerette bulkhead.  I picked up a nice new Perko bronze one and the logical mounting place is on the cabin bulkhead just on the starboard side of the engin room door.  I don't see a problem with this other than its at or below the water line vs the old location which was well above the water line.  Does anyone have a comment or opinon on this?

I believe the manufacturer recommends installation above the water line if possible.  Many boats have mounted them below though.  Make sure the raw water intake seacock is always in good working order.  If  you have to unclog the strainer you'll need to shut it or you'll flood the boat.
