Question. I was referred to a guy who “works on boats” to give me a hand servicing my fuel injectors on my diesel.  It’s not a super hard job but I have never done such a thing.  Anyhow, we were communicating back and forth and he said that he doesn’t use a torque wrench to tighten the injectors.  He said that it’s because he has been doing it for so long. I’m not really that comfortablewith that at face value.

    What are your thoughts?

I went through three torque wrenches when I rebuilt my engine. Unless you have a very good (expensive) one, a good mechanic can feel the right torque just as well. Recommended torque is based on new thread and, depending on the age of the fittings, can result in disaster.
