    Hello all,

I was looking through the scans I have of the Westsail Owners and Construction manuals and thought it might be useful to create a post with the various original and new sail dimensions and information. I would like information about any sail folks have found to work well!

Luff, leech, foot, area, material weight/type, notes from diagram or experience, designer.

If you have drawings or data for sails with question marks, please post the info or email it to me so that I may add it to the list. In addition, I have no diagrams for the W28, W39, W42, or W43. If you have sail information for those boats, please send it to me!

    Aaron,

If you come across the measurements of the mizzen staysail for the 43 Ketch I'd love to know.  I have an old Westsail flyer of Sweet Cheeks (named Jenelle then) with all sails in the wind, one of them being a mizzen staysail.

    Aaron,

This is what I measured for the sails that came with my W32.

    Aaron:

I'll measure a 2007 Kern main sail next week - great idea by the way.

7/14/2013  this is a slow answer for sure...

Kern's main for a W32 on the SF bay area is a 2 full batton , 2 reef point (all I asked for) with the following measurements.

    Luff 38' 4"
Leech 39' 2"  (this is the straight line measurement from head to clew)
    Foot 14' 6"

His furled head sail is 300 SF  for the higher winds or the Super Yankee with 350 SF.

In my notes from a Rondy talk - Kern said that the new main sails have a 2-3.5% camber verses the 6% camber of original main sails.

The staysail by Lee Sails to match the existing is 27.5' Luff, Leech 25' and foot 10.5'  or 131 SF of 8.3Oz cloth.

    Brian,

Are any of the sails you listed Kern's? Especially the Super Yankee.

    Jay,

Thanks! You have a short-footed, full batten main, right?

    Cheers,
    ~A

Aaron yes it's shorter and love those full battens....

Do you know the dimensions of the 177 sq. ft. working jib that King wrote about?

    Thank you.

The dimensions are on the sailplan in my Westsail Service Manual, Page A-24.
