Temperature logging in engine compartment

Where I live the water temperature rarely drops below freezing, and I have an engine compartment heater. I would, however, like to monitor how low the temperature in the engine space drops, and was wondering if anyone had any idea how one could record the temperature over days/weeks without spending a lot on a temperature logging device.

A standard min/max thermometer might work for you. (Less than $20)

That's exactly what I need, thanks!

I bought one of those thermometers, and it keeps 5 days of readings in rolling memory for two separate probes. Very useful! So far this winter the temp in my engine room has stayed above 50 degrees and in my cabin no lower than 39 degrees (there is an engine compartment heater set to 45.)
