    Hi Everybody,
I have W32 and would like to install Bud"s stern pulpit & main sheet hoop.
In order to do that I would have to drill 18 holes for 1/4" bolts, I already have 8 bolts holding up
my Ares wind vane. That would make total of 26 holes .I like to get some opinions on how much
will that many holes make the wooden boomkin to porous and there for much weeker

Its a lot of holes. I have the same configuration and each hole has a mark nearby where the tear fell as I drilled the hole. But I don't think the strength will be compromised :)

I don't have Buds stern pulpit so I'm just guessing here but I would think it would be stronger despite the additional holes, i.e. the stern pulpit acting almost as if it were a SS reinforcement to the wood.  Like the way a truss bridge works (engineers can correct me if I used the wrong type of bridge as the example )

Hi Al, I had the same concern but in reverse. I have Bud's stern pulpit installed and when I asked him about drilling the additional holes for the Aries his reply was as follows: "I think you are stressing too much. Just mount the brackets where they will fit, and bend the 1-1/2" tubes accordingly so that they will be the correct distance apart to fit the Aires vane. After all, your W32 is not going to the space station, only out into the warm, sunny Atlantic." So you might want to double check this with him, but it does not seem to be a problem. Werner

Or, I could get just the main sheet hoop and reduce the number of holes in the boomkin.
Then use 1" tubing to connect each side of boom gallows to the back stay so I have something to hold on to if I need to get closer to my Aries.
Any ideas how best to secure tubing to the back stay ?
    Thank you .

On our 32 (since sold) Bud had welded tabs on the SS stern pulpit so the Aires would mount to that. No extra holes in the boat.
