Westsail 28 Adele
We have bought a bigger boat! Upsizing to the 32 and husband says I can’t keep both! so my lifelong “project” boat will be going up for sale shortly. I bought this factory finished but somewhat neglected boat over 15 years ago. She spent much of the 10 years before that on the hard. I’ve focused on safety and seaworthiness but there is still cosmetic interior work to be done and also refresh of exterior teak, deck paint needed. We will be attacking these projects before listing her with a broker in December or January , but price will go up The prettier she gets. Motivated to not have 2 slip fees for too long so come and see her and make me an offer!
In 2007 (before relaunching) refit included new bowsprit, standing and running riggjng and epoxy barrier bottom coat (2 coats), new cutlass bearing, 3 coats interlux polyurethane on topsides (this is holding up well and just needs buffing, but the red stripes only had 1 coat and need repainting) etc.
In 2010 repowered with Beta 25 + new prop, still very low hours and runs beautifully!
In fall 2016 haul out - new flax packing, new bottom paint, new through hulls and mast rewired + new mast lights & LED spreader lights, & new masthead antenna.
Sails are original but in good shape, I don’t believe they were used much as the boat sat in the Delta for years before being on the hard for 10 or 15 before I bought her.
She’s ready to sail now, safe secure and simple systems (including basic AC and DC wiring, composting head). She Has taken us safely back and forth to Catalina a couple of times each summer for the last several years. But with work and kids I just never got around to final interior and exterior cosmetic upgrades that didn’t seem to be important to our enjoyment (she needs headliner rkeplaced, wood trim replaced in the head and some cabinet doors replaced and water tanks were never replaced). A flexible water tank and cabinet doors are in the boat waiting install.
Paying it forward - so this could be a good deal for someone to carry on the dream. Also a good project for someone with basic woodworking skills and plumbing skills.
Comfortable spacious interior, has been a great coastal cruiser but is also a very capable offshore boat ”go small, go simple, go now” - before life and kids catch up with you and you are upsizing to accommodate them - take care of the cosmetics while you cruise.
