    Craigs List

USCG documented 1977 Westsail 28 designed by Herb Davis was introduced as the little brother of the highly successful Westsail 32. Though similar in looks, the 28 is a ground up redesign featuring a taller aspect ratio rig, greater cut-away keel with a much finer entry for improved maneuverability that can sail closer to the wind and is a dryer boat in general.
"Irish Rose" is a non factory finish and is exquisitely done. This is a serious cruising vessel and very functional liveaboard.
-I have restored and upgraded the galley countertop with durable Corian. Eight, New Found Metals, Matrix opening portholes and new interior cabin sides (all installed 2021).
-Old aluminum water tanks replace with two Stainless Steel tanks, equaling 70 gallons.-Fuel tank replaced with aluminum tank(36gl) and fuel gauge added.-Mast support, under sole, has been replaced and beefed up. This was a known problem from the factory.
-She has a 28hp. 3 cylinder, Beta Marine diesel engine with less than 400 hours. -There is an Aquadrive coupling to the propeller shaft, eliminating thrust on the engine mounts and transmission.
-New electrical panel in box (not installed).-All new batteries (2@6v for house),(1@12v for starting.-JRC radar, Tiller Pilot, Depth Sounder, GPS.-New Stainless Steel Bowsprit.-New Stainless Steel stern pulpit-Simpson Lawrence Vertical manual windlass (chain&drum)-Large icebox re-insulated for a refrigeration system.-The stock leaky forward hatch was replace with a Bomar hatch.
    -New mast spreaders.

Comes with all the boat's manuals. The prior owner had some hull damage just under the waterline due to poor shoring when he stored the boat on his property in Washington State. It popped a bulkhead loose in the galley and gouged the hull. Those areas have been ground and feathered back, using epoxy and 1708 fiber-glass, to its original state and stronger than before. The Roller Furling system was damaged as it was stored beside the hull. It was an obsolete Furlex with no parts available. If it were me, I would go to hank on since it is a cutter rigged and not a lot of yankee area anyways. I have a new 1/19 stainless wire for the new forestay.
There are finishing touches needed to the interior and the rig has to be gone through but everything is there including new aluminum spreaders. The sails are in great shape.  Holding tank system needs to be reinstalled. There are spares available for her also.
I have been building and repairing boats for 35 years. I have owned the boat for 2 years and my wife and I have another boat that is in the water that we want to keep. We also want to move onto new projects. The Westsails are quality boats and this one is in really good shape. This is a boat that could easily take you to many offshore places, in safety. She is ready for the water now. With minimal effort she could be ready to cruise in no time. She is currently stored on my ranch in Wilton, Ca. Easy to see and easy to survey if you were so inclined. Feel free to ask questions.
