Replacement bronze nuts and bolts for rudder

I'm attempting the epoxy fix you suggested on my wobbly rudder, and am partially through removing the bolts that hold my rudder on. I have resorted to simply twisting the nuts until they break off, then driving the bolt back through the hole.

I will need to replace these nuts and bolts. Do you have a source for non-chinese, quality, (I assume these are silicon bronze?) nuts and bolts?

The U-bracket at the top of the rudder is corroded and will be replaced. It's still usable but I'd like to find a more user friendly design. Do you know of, sell, or can you fabricate, a design that will allow me to raise my tiller while at anchor?

Also, I looked at your source for plastic water containers and I'm afraid they're a little pricy for me. For the short term, at least until I'm sure of how my solution will work, I will probably just use cheap 10 dollar, 21/2 gallon, collapsable jugs.

    Thanks, Eric Olander

    Eric,

I do not have a drawing of the bolts used on the W28 rudder pintals.  The ones for the W32 are 3/8" x 2-3/4" silicon bronze carriage bolts.  Let me know what you need and I will check witth my sources.

The metal box on the top of the rudder for the W28 I also do not have the drawing for.  I can have one made up with the top front piece cut back so you can raise the tiller.  Let me know the size you need.

Eric,  You just need to measure the bolts.  Probably 3/8" diameter.  The ones on the W32 are 2-3/4" to 3" long.  I did check on the costs, and 3" long carriage bolts are about $7.00 each.  Using 3/8" hex head bolts, they are about $3.50 each.  The 3/8" bronze nuts are $1.00 each.
