Sorry to revive an old topic, but I'm the new owner of Lorilee.  I intend to replace the intermediate shrouds as the old terminals were corroded and swollen.  I've thought of re-using the 4th chainplates to convert back to running backstays, but how would I go about doing this?  My thoughts would be to shorten the stay and incorporate a tackle arrangement.  As far as adjustment fore and aft, how does one attach the tackle? To the genoa track?

I'm a bit of a newbie, so apologies for the seemingly obvious questions.

Ryan , finally, good to here from you ! Tell us about yourself and your plans for Lorilee, please . We have known Lori & Lorilee for quite some time . I was sad / glad to see her loaded up on the 18 wheeler a couple months back . Glad because I knew / hoped someone was going to give her a new life . As far as the staysail back stays I would listen to Mr . King, or just do it like the construction manual states . No offence please to the others who have given advice to this topic , I don't think there are any wrong answers so far. Anyhow Ryan , keep us posted and good luck .

Thanks for the kind words Mark.  Right now Lorilee is on the hard in Rockport, TX.  I live about three hours from the yard, so I can only get work done on the weekends.  I have repainted/refitted the mast, done some engine room work, and repaired some pretty serious termite damage.  Right now the plan is to get the boat ready for voyaging, yet keeping her as simple as possible.  I'm saving money and learning as much as I can for the next two years, then I'm unplugging and setting off.

Alex Dorsey (W42 Eleanor) has asked me to share my story on his site Project Bluesphere.  You can follow my projects with Lorilee there. http://www.projectbluesphere.com/
