Bowsprit Snatch Block for Anchoring

    Bud, I fitted a snatch block to the stbd flange of the bowsprit cap as described by Larry Pardey.  He recommends it to keep the anchor rode from chafing on the bobstay, which seems to make good sense.  However, I can't help but wonder if it's a bad idea if the winds/waves cause the boat to "hobby horse" at anchor?   Do you think that it would overstress the bowsprit (stainless), or is it just a matter of letting out more scope?   I spent a miserable night once on the Chesapeake with hours of rollers coming down the bay!  -Tom

    PS, the hole in the portside flange made a great anchor point for a jib downhaul block.
