    I have a pretty good record of previous Westsail owners and boats, so contact me directly by email with your questions.  bud@westsail.com

    Hi Bud, My brother Kevin Fahey just bought Ellipsis from Ken Schatz and Jackie Hinckley.  She was splashed in Marina Del Ray Puerto Rico by Kevin Dec 7, 2013.  I went down for 8 days and helped him get her ready, and Ken kindly gave up 3 days of vacation and flew down to help Kevin complete the readying.  Unfortunately the winds were so strong and the chop was so rough Ken had to go back before they could do the sea trials.  Please feel free to add Kevin's name to your registry and invite anyone to contact him.  Here's what I posted in his bio;

    Kevin Fahey (60) owner and buyer and Brian Fahey (62) co-owner bought Ellipsis from Ken Schatz and his wife Jackie Hinckley recently, just wanted to let the org know the boat's status.  Kevin will live aboard, brother Brian will live in envy in Pennsylvania.  Kevin owned a (Pearson?) 37' coastal cruiser many years and sailed @ Chesapeake on weekends and vacations and/but is new to his new cruising lifestyle.  Anyone wanting to contact Kevin they can email him at 1kevinfahey@Gmail.com or ring him up when he's near civilization at 570.204.6148  Sorry that I don't have her hull number available right now, but suffice it to say;  Ellipsis is very loved and appreciated...  Thank you Ken and Jackie for taking such good care of Ellipsis and thank you most for passing the torch.

    Thank you, and I remain,

    Respectfully,

    Brian

    Oh, the point of this post is, we have a very rotted wooden propane locker bolted into the odd shaped rear railing opening- is there a pvc locker made that can hang off the side rails?  Are there any other options or opinions on this placment or type of locker?  By-the-by, the granny bars & mast base area are where extra fuel is stored for extended travels.

    Thank you very much,

    Brian

    Welcome aboard and congrats on the "new" boat.

    Let me locate images of Propane installation locations -- there is a wide range of OK choices... 'll put in a slide show and post the url here....

    Give me a few days.

    If the tanks are hanging over the side, why the need for a locker?  Wouldn't a leak just spill overboard at that point?

    Thank you Jay for the welcome and the offer to send pictures of propane lockers.  For the friend below asking, 'why a locker?'- Kevin has a fiber-wound tank that might be susceptable to physical damage or from ultraviolet damage (and an aluminum spare on the other side), but the hoses and gages will certainly degrade.  Maybe its just me being the 'Felix' of the two brothers and it tidies up the look?

    God, that boat is beautiful, (but its no where's finished blossoming).  Funny how folks from all over the marina come by and then come back bringing their friends, and they all fawn on-and-on with stories of the classic WS-32.  Kinda like a guy puling into an exotic car parking lot with a Ferarri and almost nobody notices, but then in comes a 1951 MG and all the exotic car owners come over wanting to see it, talk to the owner and share a special story from their childhood or from racing legand history.  Its a "See Honey, this is that classic Westsail I was telling you about" moment.

    Here is the link to the picasa album with a few variations of LPG storage.

    Many have the tanks on the deck in a special box and also there are LPG cabinets but I'll have to look for the images...

    busy with holidays et al.

    Thank you Jay.  The odd shaped wooden locker picture you sent is exactly what kevin already has attached to his rails, only it is pretty rotted.  We were thinking there was something someone might have adapted from the camping folks that was made of a hard shell and yet better fit the beautiful lines of the rail space.  The extra (unplumbed) aluminum tank on the starboard side would be a no-brainer- we're intending on finding the correct size PVC tube and fitting it with a cap so we could cause it to swivel inwards and raise the assembly off the bottom (vented and un-glued) PVC 'cap', or doing the same and/but glueing both caps on and band-sawing a 'hatch' with a piano hinge to allow the tank to be removed from the inside of the railing.  Perhaps we might gin-up a larger version of that same set-up for the larger tank with enough extra space on the top for the regulator and the extra hose needed for the rail- mounted cook grill?

    WS-32's are such well-designed, shaply boats; putting large, squared-off propane lockers up high is as distracting as a beautiful model wearing  squared bra cups- just isn't my cup of tea (T cups?  Yikes!)
