Monitor self steer

I'm wondering how others have rigged the control lines for the Monitor.  Mine came rigged with an extra set of cheek blocks so the lines were led forward from the upper Monitor blocks instead of crossing right in front of the unit.  This adds an extra set of blocks and attendant drag.  However I find if I cross the lines right in front of the unit the line rubs on the boomkin, either bottom or top.  The line wants to go right through the boomkin.

This is how I rigged the lines. So far it seems to work well.

Thanks Greg. Lots of stuff different on your boat. That’s an interesting boomkin. Also nice to see what a newer Monitor looks like. The Scanmar people have dubbed mine as an “ancient Monitor “ based on its serial number. Mine is also mounted to the bottom of the wooden boomkin. I think if I change it to the top instead it might work.

That being said, your rig method might just work now. I’ll do a mock up to see.
