Hello!    I have a am in the process of purchasing a Westsail 32 from a marina here in Virginia.   I am wondering if there is a way to find out more about the boat ( such as if it was a kit boat or not) by using the serial number.   The serial number for our boat is

    hSSK06330876

    Thanks so much, Sy Jarvis

I'm relatively new myself but I think the K in the Hull Number indicates that it is a Kit Boat... Hull #633 and Finished August 1976... I think...

I don't know what the hss stands for. There are many more experienced Westsailors on here that will chime in and help. Westsailors are very helpful...

You may also check Westsail Facebook for a quick reply... https://www.facebook.com/groups/56090133789/

I wonder if back then a kit boat (mine is hssk 72 a W28) could have been purchased , but then on completion it was decided to have the factory finish it ?

That hull number should start out WSSK, denoting it was a kit boat when ordered originally from Westsail.

Send me an email, since I have records of the previous 5 owners of the boat.  bud@westsail.com

Thanks everyone, for all your help.   I am in the process of purchasing a Westsail 32 in Deltaville VA.   It is in rough shape, and just about everything on it needs some kind of work.   It is definitely a project boat, but I am up for a project right now and excited about working on it.   I have sailed/owned/worked on boats all of my adult life.   Last fall, we were sailing our  Beneteau First 30 E in a storm and the mast broke in half.   We decided not to invest in a new mast, but just to buy a new boat.   We like the Westsails a lot, and found this one a few weeks ago in Deltaville.   So, now we are trying to sell the Beneteau and gather our funds to complete this purchase.   There is some mix up with the previous ownership and so the yacht brokerage is trying to sort all of that out and it is taking longer than anticipated.  We do have a contract on the Westsail and I have been tinkering with it and cleaning it up and just getting excited about working on it.   Thanks again for everyone's input and help!  Much appreciated!

Sy , good luck with your new to you Westi . What a 180* , Beni to a Westi I think you made the right choice ! Well I didn't mean to hijack this post , but I think it will be of some interest , Bud tells me it was not uncommon for a kit boat to be finished by the factory . Sy , keep us posted .
