The dream and the new book

i just finished reading the post "The Dream", and I recall in the early days of Westsail, Lynne Vick's advertising really honed in on the dream of sailing far off seas, much more than just a new boat that was better than the other new boats available for sale.

I have not spread the word much yet, but a few months ago I decided to put together a book of stories about Westsail's.  I picked the title of "Westsail the World.  Almost true seas stories from owners and former owners".

The book I plan will be about 200 or pages, self-published in soft cover by one of the many companies that advertise online..I have about 12 stories so far, some of mine that were originally published in Windblown, and some from owners that have sent them to me..I need about 20 or so more stories, of about 1000 to 1500 words.

Hopefully some of you that have written your "dream" stories will send them to me to be included in the book. Of course, any other stories of cruises, unusual happenings, the pleasures of building your own kit, boat, etc. will be gratefully accepted.

I am hoping to put the book together this year, and have it printed up before the end of this year.  If we can have a good number of copies printed up, the cost should only be $20 to $25 a copy, plus mailing. I will spring for the publishing costs, and once I recover my outlay, I plan to donate any future sales profits to the WOA.  Eventually, the book may be available in digital format also.

So come on, you current and former owners, send me your tall tales and dreams, and maybe my dream of getting the Westsail history in print will happen, before I too go to Fiddlers Green.

    Send them to bud@westsail.com

Hi Bud, I just put a bug in my oldest son's ear to see if he can remember any stories from our trip to Mexico in '92. Are you looking for more Westsail specific items or just traveling in general?

Hard to say what he comes up with but he's the writer in the family so it could be interesting, he was nine at the time!

    Steve,

The prospective from the standpoint of a young child on a long cruise might make a good story.  The story should be about some particular happening on the trip, not just a general story of "we went here, then there, etc.".  Keep the story to about 2000 or so words
