| She has a comfortable, private aft cabin for mom and dad with, of course, inside passage accessibility. The aft cabin has its own hatch opening onto the after deck, not into the busy cockpit, allowing privacy on a warm night.
In the forward cabins, the Westsail 42 has the possibility of three private sleeping areas: (1) the single port forward stateroom, (2) the double starboard forward stateroom, and (3) the main salon with one or two berths. During the day these sleeping quarters become one comfortable living area for open spacious family get togethers.
Main Salon. On the 42 the galley is a dream, arranged so the cook is locked in on any tack. She has lots of counter space, huge double sinks, and a refrigerator/icebox that doesn't spill out its goods on the wrong tack. Passengers will appreciate the slightly raised doghouse, which allows them to see out when seated at the dinette, especially in foul weather! Under the doghouse sole is an enormous storage area for extra water and fuel tankage.
The navigation area is primarily for storage and long range planning. When working underway the skipper will probably find the dinette table most convenient. In that case, a center table can be added between the staterooms forward.
Head. Placing the head up forward solves the problem of how to get it out of the way. Since the bow is the least comfortable area on any boat, it is ideal for the least used purpose. Wet sails can be dumped through the forward hatch in the head and stowed in the forward sail lockers. The main head has a spacious shower too, for grubby world travelers. A small head in the owners stateroom is tucked out of the way, but is readily accessible from the aft cabin.
Engine Room. An engine is, at best, a necessary evil that must be messed with and worked upon quite regularly. On the 42/43 the engine room has almost stand-up headroom and an area for its own work bench and tool storage. No more tearing up the rest of the boat when mechanical necessities arise!
Deck. As with the 28/32, the W42/43 has bulwark protection all around the decks, and heavy duty lifelines, a great family plus. The cockpit area is family minded too, with its comfortable protected seats and large cockpit drains.
